Harriet's Essay
Harriet submitted her essay on time and met with me mid-march for a writing conference. I handed her a copy of the essay below and we went over her major strengths and weaknesses. Her strengths are mostly on the language level; they include logical sentence construction, paragraph organization, and word choices. Her weaknesses are on the rhetorical level: her body does not stay consistently focused on proving her thesis and she largely summarizes rather than analyzes the story as a result. Together we went through her essay and I pointed out instances where she was summarizing, then suggested ways she could have covered the same topic in an analytic way.
