Candice as Discussion Director
I placed Candice in a group of students who try hard but don't always get where they need to be academically, hoping that as a unit their collective efforts would get them there. Examples of her group mates are a boy who always makes insightful comments during discussions while his written work remains a mess and that boy's opposite: a quiet, observant boy who writes his insights down but rarely speaks them.
Candice's written work as part of that group is riddled with grammar errors and word omissions; however, I was not grading this particular work for grammar. Her assignment was to generate three open-ended discussion questions per chapter and to use these (as well as the work done by her peers in other roles) to lead a small group discussion on the last three chapters of the novel. These tasks she succeeded in.
